1988年に旭川医科大学を卒業後、北海道大学病院脳神経外科に入局。米国留学を経て、2013年より北海道大学脳神経外科准教授、2016年に診療教授・診療科長。その後、外科医として手術を提供し続けたいという思いから、2018年に柏葉脳神経外科病院（現・札幌柏葉会病院）に赴任した。理事長・院長を務めながら現場に立ち続け、脳神経外科の医師として最善の手術を追求する。
